neighborhood agriculture and pre-buddhist architecture

Agriculture
They’ve started flooding and plowing the rice field across the street. A flooded field is visually stimulating, abuting the street and the surrounding houses.
Architecture
Last weekend we went to Ise, a shrine about 2 hours away. There are two lots for each structure within the shrine grounds. Every twenty years each shrine is taken down and rebuilt on the empty lot.
Photography of the main shrines is not permitted, so I mostly captured the empty lots. I didn’t have a very clear impression before going of what “pre-Buddhist architecture” was, but indeed, they did look quite different from the other shrines and temples you see around here.
